Bio

Niamey Wilson, MD, FACS is the Associate Director of the Breast Health Program and Director of Breast Surgery, Quality & Research, for the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute.

Dr. Wilson grew up in Manhattan before attending Hamilton College where she majored in mathematics with a focus on topological theory. From there, she returned to New York, earning her medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. She then completed a general surgery residency and breast surgery fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. While there, she was accepted into the prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar Program and earned a master’s of science in health policy.

In addition to her clinical and administrative work with Hartford HealthCare, she is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Society of Surgical Oncology and American College of Surgeons. Dr. Wilson’s goal is to merge personalized, attentive patient care with the highest quality and most rigorous approaches to breast cancer treatment. In that capacity, she is responsible for all breast surgery trials through the system’s membership in the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance.

She has authored book chapters on breast surgery and her research has focused on the determinants of surgical decision-making from both patient and provider perspectives.

Her commitment to women’s health extends beyond the office. She has earned a national reputation as a role model for female physicians and an outspoken advocate for patient rights.
