Dr. Rafal Barczak is a colorectal surgeon with Hartford HealthCare. Clinically, his interests include: inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease; minimally-invasive intestinal surgery; colectomy; colorectal cancer screening and treatment; inherited colorectal disease; sphincter sparing cancer surgery; hemorrhoids; rectal prolapse; rectopexy; treating polyps of the colon and rectum; transanal endoscopic microsurgery; diverticulitis; anal fistulas and fissures; gastrointestinal surgery; anal cancer; cancer of the small intestine; bowel incontinence; constipation; pouchitis; proctitis; perirectal abscesses; pilonidal cysts; and sacral nerve stimulation for treatment of fecal incontinence.
After finishing his undergraduate degree at Boston College, Dr. Barczak earned a medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Connecticut and a clinical and research colorectal fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Florida.
Dr. Barczak is fluent in Polish and proficient in Russian. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon & Rectal Surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal & Endoscopic Surgeons.
