Bio

Dr. Darren Tishler currently serves as the Division Chief of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at Hartford Hospital, Chief of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery for Hartford Healthcare, and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

Dr. Tishler received his medical education from The Chicago Medical School, and completed his fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Dr. Tishler’s current research interests include studying the response of medical conditions in the morbidly obese to various surgical treatment options, the role of robotics in bariatric surgery, the study of nutritional abnormalities after weight loss surgery, and the long-term surgical management of the post-bariatric surgery patient.

Hartford Hospital’s large volume practice allows for multiple prospective and retrospective research projects, which often utilize multidisciplinary collaboration across specialties such as genomic medicine and functional neuroimaging.

Every day, Dr. Tishler is faced with helping patients address the challenges of weight loss surgery and to help them choose the best possible operation, as it is critically important to improve our understanding of the effective manage of the surgical weight loss patient.
